A blog post by Josiah, the busy Yorkie
This has been my first full summer on the farm, and it sure has been busy. Between managing all the wildlife and supervising Miss Janet, I’ve had my paws full.
I’ve had to take extra naps just to keep up my summer energy. But it’s been a great summer. Here are some highlights:
The landscaping is always changing. Whenever something gets moved around, I have to check it out and make sure all is well.
The frogs and lizards have been hiding under the porch. I have to make sure they stay in their place and don’t come inside.
You would not believe all the creatures that run through the field all summer. Mice, possums, deer, bugs of all kinds. I have to sniff every blade of grass multiple times a day. It’s a lot of news for my nose to keep up with.
Indoors, I have to stay hydrated and keep up with my yummy summer treats, so I’ll have all the energy I need to patrol the perimeter.
Those sneaky rodent-squirrels have been running wild all summer. I have to keep my eyes and nose alert in the back yard to make sure they’re not planning an invasion.
I play indoor games where it’s cool, so I can keep my tracking skills sharp.
Those crazy voles are so active underground. They keep expanding their territory. They’ve taken over the entire side yard now. This is a rodent crisis of monumental proportions.
After each patrol, I have to find the best possible spot for my naps where I get the nicest cool breeze from the fan.
Summer sure is busy. But it’s also fun. I hope you’ve been having a good summer too.
