A blog post by Josiah, the recovering Yorkie
This weekend was pretty rough. Miss Janet and I both were sick. But we’re starting to feel better. I’ll tell you what happened.
Miss Janet got sick because of something she ate that didn’t sit well. I stayed right by her side because I could tell she didn’t feel well. I knew she needed my support.
I was getting a little restless though because I had a lot of energy and nowhere to put it. So my auntie came and got me. She took me to my doodle friend Beauregard’s farm so we could play.

I had so much fun running around, chasing Beauregard, playing in the creek. I even got to ride on a tractor! I really am a big farm dog now. What a great day.

When I got home that night, Miss Janet was feeling a little better. So I thought things were improving. Little did I know, they were about to get worse.

Miss Janet took me outside for my pre-bedtime walk. Right there on the front porch was a big old frog sitting on a leaf. I’m not supposed to lick frogs, but I was just so curious. I nosed my way up to him and before I could stop myself, I licked him.
Things weren’t very good after that. I felt awful. He was covered with something that tasted bitter and upset my tummy. The whole next 24 hours were a blur. I couldn’t eat. Everything slowed down. I felt miserable.

Miss Janet took me back to Beauregard’s farm, where his family cleaned out my mouth: teeth, gums, tongue, and roof. They used wet rags and got all that awful frog goop out of my mouth. I already felt better, but I was still weak from not eating.
Beauregard shared some of his broth with me. It made me feel a little better. It tasted good, much better than that awful frog taste.
When we got home, Miss Janet said she was too worried to leave me in my crate overnight. For the first time ever, I got to sleep in the human bed overnight. I’ve been waiting for that privilege since I was a baby puppy.
Miss Janet has her favorite side of the bed. I let her know I would actually prefer that side myself. We Yorkies are very picky about our sleeping setup.
Miss Janet moved over to accommodate me. She said when I’m feeling better, we will revisit the subject. She’s pretty picky about her sleeping setup too. I expect to eventually win that argument, but I’ll let her make her case. Humans sometimes need that.

This morning I woke up hungry. I ate some plain white rice, dog-safe broth, and a couple teaspoons of plain pumpkin puree (my favorite). I even had a couple bites of my normal dog food. I think I will feel better soon. I plan to nap the whole day.
It was a rough weekend, but we are both starting to feel better now.
I hope you will have a healthy and wonderful week.
Kisses and snuggles,
Josiah
