Yorkie Puppy Birthday Milestones: One Year!

A blog post by Josiah, the one-year-old Yorkie dog (not puppy!)

Wow! It’s my birthday week. I’m so excited. On Wednesday, I will be one year old. That means I’m not a puppy anymore. I’m a full-grown dog. Can you believe it?

Miss Janet said I might still feel and act like a puppy for another six months to a year. Physically, I’m grown; behaviorally, I’m still a teenager. I guess that’s not a bad thing. That means it’s okay if I still get into trouble. I don’t have to do the whole grownup dog thing perfectly, all at once. Whew! That takes a lot of pressure off me. Miss Janet says I will always be her puppy.

To celebrate my one-year-old birthday, I want to show you some of my baby pictures, so you can see all the growing-up milestones I’ve reached. I’ve done a lot this year. It’s been amazing.

Let’s take a look at my first year as a Yorkie.

This was my photo of the day I came home to live with Miss Janet. I can’t believe how little I was back then.

I learned to have fun chasing rolly balls. I still love them.

I started exploring the big farm. The clover tickled my toes.

As a baby puppy, I loved getting tickled on the couch. As a grownup dog now, I still love getting tickled.

I met my new friend and big brother, Beauregard, a gentle giant who lives nearby.

I discovered that blankets are very cozy for napping. I napped a lot when I was a baby puppy. I still do.

I learned how to walk up and down the steps.

I had my first bath. I didn’t like my hair being all wet, but it was fun to wiggle around and dry my hair in the big towels.

I went on my first camping trip and met my girlfriend, Lily.

I got my first grownup Yorkie puppy haircut at the groomer.

I got my stylish winter jacket to get ready for the cold weather.

I walked outside in my first snow.

I finally got to jump on the human bed. Yay! It’s all mine now. (Shh, don’t tell Miss Janet.)

It’s been an amazing, adventurous first year. I’ve loved every minute. I’ve got a great home, a wonderful human, amazing aunties, good animal friends, a beautiful farm, and lots of cuddly blankets for naptime. What more could a Yorkie ask for? Well, maybe a few more snacks today?

So excited that my new adult dog food just arrived in the mail.

Thank you for celebrating my first birthday. It’s fun being a grownup dog. I’ll still play the insanely cute puppy card when I get into trouble. But mostly, I will enjoy being a big dog!

Woofs and wiggles,

Josiah

Time for my birthday nap. Zzzzzzz
