I love to drink water. It keeps me cool and refreshed. Drinking water is one of the ways I’m able to stay cool in the summer and all year long.
I’m a busy Yorkie with lots of supervisory duties at home. That’s a lot of work, a lot of running around. It makes me thirsty. I need to keep my water bowls close at hand. So, I’ve created a whole water network.
My main water bowl is in the kitchen. That’s my first stop in the morning. If Miss Janet has forgotten to fill it up, I complain. Loudly. She hurries right along to give me fresh water. That’s the perfect start to my day.
I also have a water bowl right inside my playpen. That’s great for a quick sip during chill time. I also have a water bowl inside my daytime crate. When Miss Janet goes out, I relax in that crate. I can sip my water whenever I want.
That crate is also very near to the couch. When I wake up thirsty from a nap and don’t want to go all the way into the kitchen, I just stop at the crate and drink.
Then I keep a water bowl in the bedroom. I often spend time in there at the windows, where I get a great view of the side yard. You never know what those rodent-squirrels are up to.
And now the chickens on the farm are running loose everywhere! I have to supervise from the window and keep them in line. That makes me thirsty, so it’s a good thing I have that bedroom water bowl.
My water network extends outdoors as well. On my morning walk, my favorite way to get water is by licking dew from the grass and leaves in the meadow. It is delicious and very convenient, being at my exact height. No slouching over a bowl to drink. The taste of fresh morning dew is like no other water in the world.
If it’s rained, I look for rain puddles to lick. Miss Janet kind of frowns on that. She says I don’t know what creatures were in those puddles. That’s exactly the point! That’s why they taste so interesting with lots of different flavors. She just doesn’t get it.
I even have a water bowl at my doodle friend Beauregard’s farm. Okay, so it’s actually his outdoor bowl. But it’s very convenient for me when I visit. There’s also a smaller indoor bowl that I use when I stay there, although Beauregard enjoys that small bowl too.
And then the best water source of all: Beauregard has his own backyard creek! I love to put my paws in and sip the fast-moving creek water. The rocks and mud and creatures give it so much flavor, and it’s always fresh and cool.
You might think it’s a lot to have so many sources of water in my network. But it is important for me to stay hydrated within easy reach. It makes no sense to run a long distance and work up a thirst just trying to reach a water bowl.
I’m glad Miss Janet lets me keep all these water bowls in different places throughout my water network. It’s nice of her to scrub them out too and get rid of that film they pick up. Fresh water in a fresh bowl always tastes so good.
