A blog post by Josiah, the camping Yorkie
When I was five months old, I went camping for the first time. Recently, I went back to the same camp. On my first camping trip, everything was big and strange and mysterious. This time, I went back as a grownup, seasoned camper. I had so much fun!
As we twisted and turned on the mountain roads, I knew exactly where we were going. I recognized the trees, the lake, the creek. All the smells were familiar.

This time, we didn’t stay in a cabin. We got to stay in a big house on wheels. I had my own bedroom with my overnight crate from home.

On my first camping trip, I had carefully checked out the creek. I wasn’t too sure about it back then, but the water had felt good on my toes. I’ve had a lot more experience with creeks since then. So this time, I went right in to explore. I walked along the creek stones, watched all the insects, and took in the amazing smells.

At the creek, I noticed a very distinct rodent smell. I didn’t see any rodents, but I knew they had been there. I filed that away. Just stay alert.

Some of my aunties were already at the camp. They cuddled me and walked me around the campsite. I loved being spoiled by my aunties.

Then another auntie drove up, and guess who got out of the car? Lily! My girlfriend from my first camping trip! The most beautiful Maltese schnauzer in the world.
I was so excited to see her. I ran right over to greet her. She had grown a little, but so had I. Instead of her jumping at me this time, I jumped at her. She couldn’t knock me over. I had gained two whole pounds since last time, and I had grown a lot sturdier.

Lily and I got to visit the bark park where we had played last time. We ran and ran, chased each other, wrestled, had so much fun. I was worn out and needed a nap after that. But I loved getting to play with Lily. She is the most beautiful, perfect dog in the world.

That evening, one of my aunties was walking me around the creek, and I smelled those rodents again. I started growling to let them know a Yorkie rodent hunter was here. They were an unfamiliar breed of rodent, but I knew they were rodents all the same. I growled for a long time to warn them not to mess with me or my pack.
The next morning we were sitting at the picnic table eating our breakfast. And those big old rodents ran right through the campsite. Two of them, chasing each other.
Miss Janet said they were beavers who probably hung out at the creek. She said they were chasing each other because they’re in love, just like I chase Lily. Fine, go be in love. But be in love at a different campsite away from my pack. I gave them my best Yorkie growl, and they moved on.

Lily and I went to the bark park again, and I worked out all my rodent aggression. I was tuckered out after that and ready for the winding drive home.

A few days after our camping trip, Miss Janet brought me to Beauregard’s house. He’s my doodle friend and neighbor. A lot of my aunties were there, and I was enjoying being spoiled again. Then you’ll never guess who drove up. Lily! My girlfriend from camp!
I couldn’t believe it. I almost flipped over myself running to greet her. She recognized me too. I didn’t know she lived away from camp or that I could visit her anywhere else.
And then, the best moment of all: she kissed me! I felt like the luckiest Yorkie in the world.

We had the best day together. When I got home, I took a long nap and dreamed about Lily. I hope I’ll see her again soon. I really do have the best Yorkie life.
I hope you’re having fun experiences too. It’s the best way to live.
Swishes and kisses,
Josiah
