Spring Has Sprung

A blog post by Josiah, the springing Yorkie puppy

Spring sure is a beautiful, fragrant, and loud time of year! I had no idea so much happens outdoors in the spring.

The birds chatter loudly in the morning. They flutter up in the trees. They all sound different. Do they understand each other?

I guess it’s like how Miss Janet sounds different from me, but I still understand what she is saying to me. Well, sometimes I pretend not to. But I really do. Shhh, don’t tell her.

Whenever I don’t want to do what Miss Janet tells me, I pretend I don’t understand. Then I just do my settle command, and she leaves me alone. It works every time. I’m glad I learned that settle command at a young age. It helps me get away with a lot!

I spend a lot of my indoor time looking out the window, listening for the birds, watching the rodent-squirrels running everywhere. What a busy backyard!

My elm tree is filled with green leaves now. There were pretty pink flowers for a while, and now it’s all green. It’s very shady and protects me from hawks. I like that.

My favorite elm tree got very pink for a while. Now it’s all green.

Yesterday was very windy, and I could hear the wind blowing through all the green leaves. It was a beautiful sound, one I’d never heard before. I guess wind sounds different on spring green leaves.

Some of those leaves ended up on the ground because of the wind. I had to sniff through all of them. That’s how I can learn about all the birds fluttering in the trees. They leave their scent on the leaves, and when that scent floats down to the ground, I must always check it out.

When those green leaves blow off the trees, I have to check them out to learn all about the birds fluttering in the trees.

I went to visit my favorite clover patch. I love rolling and swishing in clover. It feels great! I was so surprised, though. My nice green clover patch suddenly had all these blossoms growing. How did that happen? I didn’t authorize it.

I did not authorize these blossoms to grow in my clover patch!

I immediately started trying to remove them. But Miss Janet told me to leave them alone. She said that’s how the clover patch grows every year. And some bugs probably like those blossoms. So I guess I should leave them alone.

With so much activity going on outdoors, my sentry duties have expanded. I am on a very serious yard patrol every time I go outside. Indoors, I am very vigilant to watch and listen for what’s happening outside.

I may be sitting inside, but my ears are always tuned to what’s going on outside.

All that watching, listening, and sniffing makes me sleepy. I take a lot more naps every day. They are shorter naps, and I’m still kind of alert. But it’s nice to stretch out and close my eyes.

I’m still alert and paying attention. But I think I’ll just shut my eyes for a minute. Nothing quite as comfy as a good sunbeam.

I hope you are enjoying your spring season. What’s your favorite thing about spring?

Sniffs and snoozies,

Josiah

Spring is exhausting. But it’s beautiful and fun too. I hope you enjoy your springtime.
