Yorkie Puppy aka Toy Engineer

A blog post by Josiah, the engineering Yorkie puppy

Miss Janet has become fascinated by my toy engineering. I like to combine my toys in different ways. My latest project is to thread my monkey toy through the middle of my puppy tire.

I love engineering different ways to combine my toys.

Miss Janet wonders why I do that, and maybe you’re wondering too.

First of all, it’s fun! My toys all have interesting shapes. They all look and feel very different. I love to see how I can combine them.

I may wrap up a rope ball in a plushy toy and roll it around. Or I might take my chew bone and make it a bow tie for my yellow duck toy.

My yellow duck toy looks charming with his chew-bone bow tie.

But threading my monkey toy through the puppy tire is the most challenging. It requires precise engineering. It takes a lot of concentration to finish the project.

We Yorkies have an inquisitive mind, so we need projects to keep us busy. Otherwise we get really bored and get into trouble. When I can focus on toy engineering, it keeps my mind occupied in a helpful way.

We Yorkies like to keep our inquisitive minds sharp. I’m often focused on a toy engineering project.

Toy engineering is also about my denning instincts. I need to keep my monkey toy safe so he doesn’t escape. I secure him with my puppy tire. Just like I weigh the yellow duck down with my chew bone.

The puppy tire keeps my monkey toy weighted down so he’s easier to play with and doesn’t wander off.

It’s also easier to play with those light plushy toys when they are weighted down. The puppy tire holds the monkey in place, so I can have a wild time chewing or rubbing my face on the plushy toy.

Miss Janet often stops and watches when I thread the monkey toy. She probably wonders how I can do that. I’m an engineer at heart. She is so entertained.

Miss Janet is fascinated by my engineering projects. I often narrate my projects with gruffs and growls.

Before bedtime, Miss Janet gathers my toys and returns them to my playpen. She separates the monkey toy from the puppy tire. Do you think that upsets me? No. It makes me happy because I get to start my engineering project all over again.

Every evening, Miss Janet returns my toys, separated, to my playpen. That just lets the fun continue because I get to engineer them all over again.

What kinds of toy engineering projects does your pup enjoy?

Smiles and squiggles,

Josiah

It will be bedtime soon. I’ll start over again tomorrow.

Josiah’s Favorites from this story:

Kong Puppy Tire — For an aggressive chewer like Josiah, this puppy tire has been the perfect toy. It even holds treats and puppy-safe snacks. (Link opens in Amazon.)

Hurley Bone-Shaped Chew Toy — Josiah carries this puppy toy with him everywhere. His aggressive chewing hasn’t put a single dent in the toy. I was so glad to find something that attracts him but also stands up to his chewing. (Link opens in Amazon.)

Josiah’s toys are for a small-breed puppy. Always check sizes and age limits. Both of those toys have larger adult dog versions too. No pet toy is indestructible. Toy use should be supervised and damaged items removed.
