So Much Water

A blog post by Josiah, the rain-soaked Yorkie puppy

The strangest thing happened the other day. The sky started talking. Loudly. I wasn’t sure how to feel about that.

It sounded like a big truck was doing zoomies all around the sky. That zoomie sky truck must have bumped corners too because light kept flashing. Kaboom!

Miss Janet and I were outside when I heard all that noise and saw the flashes. I looked to see if she had heard it.

“Yes, I heard it,” she said. “It’s okay.”

The sky sure was making a lot of noise. What in the world?

She seemed calm but in a hurry. We went quickly through the yard and back to the front porch. I looked over my shoulder everytime the sky rumbled to make sure that zoomie truck wasn’t headed toward us. I never saw anything but the flashes of light. What in the world?

As we got close to the front door, I felt drops of water on my back. I recognized that feeling. Those were rain drops. Big ones. Miss Janet rushed us inside.

As soon as we got in, I heard the rain on our roof. I’ve never heard so much rain in my whole life. It sounded like all the water in the sky was being dumped on our roof. I could still hear that zoomie truck and see the flashes of light through the windows.

I curled up on a blanket next to Miss Janet. She seemed very calm, so I guess it wasn’t the first time she’d heard all that noise.

Miss Janet seemed calm, so I decided to be calm too.

She told me it was a thunderstorm, and it was no big deal. She said the sky was just going through some changes, and this is normal right before spring. She said we will hear these noises for half the year. I can’t imagine! But when I saw she was calm, I decided to be calm too.

The rain was pouring on our roof for hours. I didn’t know the sky had so much water. Finally it got quieter, so Miss Janet took me out for my pre-bedtime walk. Wow! The yard looked like the creek at Beauregard’s farm. Beauregard is my giant doodle friend who lives nearby.

So much water was rushing by I had to jump over it. I hoped we wouldn’t stay out too long. At least the sky had stopped rumbling, and I only saw a couple flashes of light.

As we came back to the porch, I saw a really big frog. I’m so interested in frogs. I want to lick them. But Miss Janet won’t let me. She says it’s not good for me and would make me sick. So I just stared at the frog, and he stared back. I think he really liked all the rain.

I’m not allowed to lick frogs, so we just looked at each other.

When we got back inside, Miss Janet dried my hair with a big towel. Then it was time for bed. The rain started up again, and I fell asleep listening to even more water pouring on the roof.

When I got back inside, my hair was rain-soaked. I had to be dried off with a giant towel.

The next morning, the rain had stopped. The ground was still wet, but the big creek in the yard was gone. Where did all that water come from? Where did it go? Maybe it all ran down to Beauregard’s creek. I hope so. He loves to swim.

Hope you stay safe and dry in all the noisy spring rain that’s coming.

After the rain, the ground was covered with pretty flowers. I love smelling them. I think spring is here.
