A blog post by Josiah, the springy Yorkie puppy
I am so excited. Miss Janet said spring is coming soon. I can already sense it. It’s amazing. Everything is changing.
The birds are chattering. Rodent-squirrels are running everywhere. I met my first frog the other night. Miss Janet says I am not allowed to lick a frog because it would upset my tummy. So I had to step over him—he was sitting right up against our door. Silly frog.

The wind has been blowing a lot, so the yard is filled with tree limbs. I like exploring them. They have interesting smells.

There are so many scents in the air. So much is happening. The pretty yellow daffodils are blooming all over the yard. I take the time to stop and smell each one.

At night, the outdoors has gotten very noisy. I hear all kinds of insect sounds and small animals scurrying along the ground. I find all kinds of newly dug holes in the morning. I love to sniff and try to guess who lives there or who was digging up bugs. (Miss Janet says it’s time to start wearing my flea spritzer again. It makes me smell like a garden.)
My clover patch is growing. It’s a lot greener and puffier. I love cleaning my feet and face in the clover. It brings back good memories from my youngest puppy days on the farm. When I moved here as a baby puppy, the clover was my first big outdoor discovery.

Miss Janet said don’t get too excited too soon because the cold front monster could still visit again. I hope he stays away. I don’t like the cold.
Did you know we Yorkies only have a single coat? Many dogs have an undercoat that helps them stay warm in winter. We Yorkies don’t have an undercoat. We have hair that grows out just like you do. So we tend to feel chilly when the cold front monster visits.
My friend, Beauregard, is a golden doodle. He has a water-resistant undercoat. That explains why he likes to go into the creek when the water is cold. I sure don’t! Brrr. I’ll wait till summer to enjoy the water.

Happy almost spring! I hope you have a lovely day, and remember to smell the daffodils.
Squiggles and smiles,
Josiah
