One Pup, Seven Beds

A blog post by Josiah, the comfy, snoozy Yorkie puppy

Did you know I have seven beds? That’s right, seven. That may sound like a lot of beds for one puppy. But each bed has a purpose.

As a Yorkie puppy, I am an expert on the comfort of beds. Every bed serves a purpose. I can never have too many comfy places to sit, stretch out, curl up, and nap.

Some of my beds are duplicates. I have two cozy crate beds, so I can stay comfy in my two crates. One crate is for daytime, whenever Miss Janet goes out for a while. The other is for sleeping overnight.

I let Miss Janet know early on that I prefer maximum comfort in my crates. I showed her I can be a well-behaved puppy and not chew on my crate beds. I just snuggle and relax. My crate beds also keep me warmer in cold weather.

I’m quite content in my daytime crate bed whenever Miss Janet goes out for a while.

My daytime crate is slightly bigger than my overnight crate. It’s got an area for my food and water, so they don’t mess up my cozy bed. I stay a lot more settled in my crates because of those beds.

I have two small, matching beds for my playpen. Why two? When one is being cleaned and dried, I have another on standby. I do most of my napping in my playpen, so my absolute comfort is important. In our recent winter storms, Miss Janet stacked the playpen beds double-decker, so I could have extra cushiony warmth.

My playpen bed is where I do most of my napping. It’s so cozy.

I have a slightly larger, comfy dog bed to curl up in on the living room floor. My aunts picked it out for me the day Miss Janet brought me to live with her. My very first, original snuggly toy sits in that bed. I can enjoy that bed when I’m practicing my free roam. It makes me feel like a grownup dog.

I love to snuggle in my grownup dog bed.

For Christmas, I got a new bed. It’s a giant human/dog bed. It’s so comfy and warm, and I love snuggling and swishing around. It’s so big, I can run around and explore every inch of the bed. It’s an adventure!

I love my giant human/dog bed. Best Christmas present ever.

There’s room for Miss Janet too, so that makes it even more fun. I get to jump over her and chew on her toes. She tells me no, but I still try. I pretend her feet are strange creatures on my adventure. Eventually she gets tired of my attacking her toes, so she sits up. I get more of the bed. Is that my plan all along? She’ll never know for sure.

When I chew on Miss Janet’s toes, she sits up, and I get more space in my giant human/dog bed.

Then there’s bed number seven. I admit it’s not really my bed yet. But I’ve enjoyed sneak previews. It’s the bed Miss Janet sleeps in—her overnight crate. It’s not very high off the ground. She bought herself a low bed, for my benefit, so I can climb on and off one day soon.

I’ve sat and even napped on that bed a few times with Miss Janet supervising. She won’t let me run around or jump, only sit or lie down. My growth plates are still growing, so she won’t let me stress them.

Testing out bed number seven. One day, it will all be mine. Miss Janet took this photo as she was sitting in my giant human/dog bed on the floor, watching as I made myself comfy on her bed. I’m just getting her prepared for how the future will be.

In six more weeks, I get to learn how to climb up and down from that bed. That’s so exciting. I can’t wait.

Does that mean I’ll get to sleep there overnight? Miss Janet says eventually. She won’t tell me what eventually means. But I’m already claiming that bed as my own.

Do you also have lots of cozy, comfy napping and relaxing spots in your home? I think comfort is a very important part of life. I hope you have a comfy, relaxing day.

Snuggles and swishes,

Josiah

Even though I have seven cozy beds, my favorite snuggle place is the blanket when Miss Janet is sitting on the couch.
