A blog post by Josiah, the visiting Yorkie puppy
I was in my sleeping crate in the bedroom, just waking up and ready to explore an amazing new day. I heard the strangest noise coming from the living room. It sounded like Miss Janet was packing up my chill-time crate and carrying it outside. Was this a bad dream?
Then it sounded like she was packing up all my food. What in the world was going on? Had she lost her mind?
Miss Janet came to take me outside for our morning walk. As we moved through the living room, I saw a big bag filled with my treats, toys, flea spritz, and blankets. What was she doing?

When we came back from our walk, she put me in my backpack carrier, put me on her back, and then carried me and my sleeping crate out the door! I whined and rumbled around in my backpack carrier. Next thing I knew, I was inside the car along with every possession I own in this world.
A Familiar Place
When we pulled into a familiar driveway, I panicked. We were at Beauregard’s farm. Oh, no. When I came here for my surprise playtime two weeks ago, I had asked Miss Janet if I could stay here. Did she think I was serious? Was she moving me in with Beauregard?
I love Beauregard, my doodle friend and big brother. But I don’t want to live with him. He’s a giant. He would trample me. Help! Miss Janet. I was just kidding! I don’t want to move here. I really like our own home.
Miss Janet set up my chill-time crate on the front porch and took me for a walk. I was torn between feeling nervous about why I was here, and at the same time, I loved the way the spongy grass felt between my toes. This farm was amazing.

When we got back to the porch, she put me in my chill-time crate. She let Beauregard out to greet me. That’s when I realized Miss Janet had packed up a bunch of her stuff too. Were we both moving in?
I noticed my aunt and uncle weren’t home. Miss Janet finally explained that when they go out of town, we stay with Beauregard to keep him company. Ohhhhh.
I was so relieved she wasn’t going to leave me here. Then I got really excited because I was going to have my first overnight away from home. And I would get to enjoy playing with Beauregard. This was going to be a great day after all.

Overnight at Beauregard’s Farm
Our stay at Beauregard’s farm wasn’t just overnight. It was five whole days. We had so much fun!
I got to explore the fields without a leash and run inside the magnolia tree. I got to play in the creek and paddle in the swimming pool. I kicked up such a splash. There were so many sights, sounds, and smells. Lots of deer everywhere. Chickens and horses nearby.

I could hear animals nearby that sounded like they were always laughing. Miss Janet said they are goats. I didn’t see them, as they were on a neighbor’s farm. But I could hear them, all the time. I barked to let them know I was there. That just made their laughter louder. They were funny.

In the mornings, I got to relax in my chill-time crate on the porch. Beauregard sat down next to me. We were right by the garden, and it was fun to watch the butterflies and bees enjoying the flowers.

One day, one of my aunts came to visit me. She sat in a chair on the porch and held me. It was so fun to sit with her. She told me I’m adorable. I love my aunts.
Miss Janet didn’t want me to run free when Beauregard was outside because he could trample me by accident. He is so big, and he runs really fast. When it was my turn to run free through the fields, Beauregard stayed indoors and watched through the windows. It was very kind of him.
Sometimes, she took us both outside at the same time, with me on my harness and leash for safety. Beauregard ran big zoomie circles around me. I tried to jump after him, and he jumped away, as if he thought I could catch him. It was fun. Then we’d walk through the fields together, with Beauregard leading the way.
Getting Settled for the Evening
In the evenings, Miss Janet moved my chill-time crate inside. Beauregard’s house is so big that I got scared the first evening. Miss Janet was sitting in front of me, on the couch, and Beauregard was next to me on the floor. But I didn’t have a wall on the other side of my crate like I do at home. And the house had all these doors behind me. I didn’t feel safe.
Miss Janet realized I was afraid, so she took one of my blankets and put it over my crate. She kept it open where I could see her and Beauregard. But the rest of the house was blocked out. I felt safe and cozy, so I could relax.

Later in the evening, when I normally sit on the couch at home with Miss Janet, she let me sit in a blanket on her lap. Beauregard sat on the couch next to us. He had a seahorse toy he was willing to share with me. He is very gentle and kind.
When we needed to go outside after dark, Miss Janet took us both out at the same time. She kept me on my harness and leash so Beauregard wouldn’t accidentally run over me. But she wanted him to guard us outside at night. He was very kind to stay near us and stand guard, but he didn’t bother me at all. He’s a good big brother.

Comfy, Cozy Basement
Miss Janet and I slept in the basement. In the morning, Beauregard and I were both allowed to get into the basement bed for the last hour of sleeping. It was so cozy.
The bed had two blankets, and Miss Janet brought my blanket from home. All the blankets piled up made a soft and squishy place to nap. Beauregard was across the foot of the bed, Miss Janet on the outside, and the wall on the other two sides. I was snuggled in and loved it. I napped so well.
After five days at Beauregard’s farm, I was pretty tired. I was glad to go home and get in a good nap. But I had so much fun. I am excited to visit Beauregard and his farm again one day soon.
That was my first overnight. I think it was a big success. Miss Janet was proud of me. I behaved (mostly) really well. She said we could definitely do an overnight again sometime. Till then, I’ll get some big naps in to store up my energy because there is so much to explore and do at Beauregard’s farm.
Super proud to be Beauregard’s little brother,
Josiah
