A blog post by Josiah, the farm-loving Yorkie puppy
I’m Josiah, a Yorkie puppy. I’m almost four months old. This week, I’m discovering the big outdoors on the farm. Wanna explore with me?
I spent my first two months in the big city. I never imagined what it would be like to live on a farm. I love it.
The farm is huge. Just when I think I’ve seen it all, there is more. A whole lot more.
Kicking Dirt and Tugging Roots
The weather has been so beautiful. Miss Janet decided we should sit outside. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was ready for an adventure.
She took me to a puppy-perfect spot on the farm—a place covered in shade and filled with dirt. She didn’t want me sitting in the grass where all the bugs are. I love the dirt. It’s fun to dig into it and kick it.

There are lots of roots sticking up. I like to pull on them and see what comes up. Miss Janet says I might be pulling on roots in a garden on the other side of the world!
I laugh when I think of a puppy on the other side of the world watching the plants in his garden go up and down as I tug. Maybe he will start tugging too. That would be a fun game.
The Big Meadow
Miss Janet said I’m ready to explore the big meadow. At first, I wasn’t sure. I kind of hung out by the gate at the top of the hill. Miss Janet coaxed me into the meadow with a treat. I stepped in slowly. That’s as far as I got the first day.

The next day, I went a little farther. Pretty soon, I was halfway down the hill. I looked around. Wow. I was in the middle of the huge meadow.
So many smells—I started to track them all. Butterflies fluttered around me. Tiny bugs scrambled past my feet. There were patches of dirt and giant rocks to sit on if the grass was too wet. A nice breeze was blowing down the hill, making the leaves swirl around me. Wow, the meadow had everything.

New Farm Friends
One afternoon, I walked into the meadow and stopped. Who were those strange creatures on the other side of the fence?
I recognized the donkey. I’ve met him before. But there was someone that looked like the donkey but taller. Miss Janet said she is a horse.
Then I saw these two white fluffballs chewing on grass. They stopped and stared at me. Just stared for the longest time. How can anyone stare that long? Miss Janet said they are sheep.
These creatures are all my new friends here on the farm.

Farther down the hill, I saw more creatures. They stared at me too. What is with all this staring? Miss Janet said they are deer. She said I’ll see them all the time at the bottom of the hill.
But I know a secret she doesn’t know. This morning, I found deer foot prints in my sandy play area at the top of the hill. The deer sneak up here at night. Maybe they’re curious about that root from the other side of the world I’ve been tugging on. Or maybe they just like the blackberries that grow here.

Miss Janet said I’ll also see turkeys where the deer hang out. They are birds bigger and crazier than the chickens. I can’t wait to meet them.
She also said I might see a groundhog running along the meadow. And voles live underground. Wow. The farm is like a city made of grass, trees, and dirt. Who knew so many creatures lived here?

I’ve met new human friends on the farm too. They live in the big house made out of trees. The whole big farm and my new animal friends belong to them. They are very kind to let me stay here. They always cuddle me and tell me I’m cute.
I’m really glad I get to live on a farm. Have you ever been to a farm? Did you have fun there? I think I’m going to have lots of fun here.

Whatever your adventure is today, I hope you enjoy it.
Woofs and wags,
Josiah
